CO-OPERATION

Co-operations between companies are started for all kinds of reasons. Usually it is the market that makes some form of co-operation desirable. A typical example is the system of assigning only a limited number of suppliers, nowadays adopted by big companies. The result is that one is often forced to offer a wider range of products, than one could have offered originally. Any form of co-operation, either on a temporary or permanent basis, may in such a case offer a solution.

Examples are:

  • Informal co-operation for the joint realization of a certain project;
  • Formal co-operation, the target of which is the realization of a joint project;
  • Joint-venture with a mutual objective;
  • Co-operation with a foreign company, for instance within the expanding EC-market, or at a greater distance intercontinentally to create a foothold within the EC-market for companies from the United States, Taiwan or China;
  • A merger of two or more companies.

In setting up a successful co-operation it is of the utmost importance that the search for and selection of a suitable business partner be carried out carefully. Moreover, it is a wise thing for the party taking the initiative to remain both anonymous and on the background. In that way the competition cannot take advantage, for its own benefit, of the intention of co-operation.
